THE BIBLE AND THE USE OF TATTOOS - We can see in the Word of God at least two objective texts that deal with this matter (there are other verses that can be well analyzed): “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created him; male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:27).

Here we see that the human being, the crown of God's creation, was made “in the image and likeness of the Creator”. This indicates that he does not need “adornments” in his body, as he has already been made similar to the most perfect and beautiful Being in the Universe. Making some kind of mark that changes this image and that brings “pain” in what is considered the “sanctuary of the Holy Spirit” (“the body” – see 1 Corinthians 3:16-17; 6:19-20) is to demonstrate a certain dissatisfaction with the image of God, disrespecting Him. The desire to tattoo your body may be an indication that your self-esteem needs to be better worked on.
See another verse below: “You shall not harm your flesh for the dead; neither shall you make any mark upon yourselves. I am the Lord.” (Leviticus 19:28).
The Seventh-day Adventist Biblical Commentary, in vol. 1: “It probably refers to tattoos (this is how the Jerusalem Bible version translates it – BJ), a custom that in itself is not immoral, but certainly unworthy of the people of God, as it tends to damage the image of the Creator”.
The translation in the “New International Version” supports the opinion of the aforementioned commentary: “Do not make cuts on your body for the dead, nor tattoos on yourself. I am the Lord.”
In the same way as the apostle Paul, the only marks that we should have in ourselves should be those in favor of Christ: “Furthermore, let no one bother me; because I bear the marks of Jesus on my body.” (Galatians 6:17).
If you have one (or more) tattoos, don't worry: Jesus erases your past. When you demonstrate repentance (Acts 3:19) and acceptance of the teachings of the Bible (Revelation 1:3), God forgives you (Psalm 32:5) and considers you as if you had never had a tattoo! (1 John 1:9). God's forgiveness is wonderful and He makes all the resources available to improve your self-esteem (Philippians 2:13) so that you can feel good (and happy) without “pains” on your body.
And, don't forget: you are the most beautiful drawing God has ever made! (Photo: Disclosure).
