One of the most frequent questions I get asked is: "How can we know that Christianity is true when there are all the other religions in the world?"
The first thing I address is that biblical Christianity is not a religion, but I quickly move on and say that we will get to that shortly because I feel that this explanation is always best to go along with the gospel; The contrast between Christianity and all other religions helps bring clarity to the gospel of grace.
Now back to the big question. I believe that proving the truth of the Bible as a whole is the best way to do this. Within this you will discover that Christianity is how God is working with men today.
Now faith is not to be blind. Faith must be rooted in logic, reason and, above all, truth. Well then surely there has to be a foolproof way, right? Tangible evidence that we can all understand that can lead us to the truth? Of course there is.
Here is a list of various angles one could take on their journey to discover the truth. Please know that these will be difficult for me to summarize because I feel as if I could provide endless examples in each listing.
Prophecy:
The Bible is axiomatic, meaning it proves to be true. If you have never thought about this before, humanity is not capable of writing such prophecies thousands of years in advance and making them happen accurately. Maybe random chance could allow some over such a long period of time, sure. But the Bible has over 3,000 prophecies and counting. The only explanation is that these are the written words of God.
Archeology:
Great discoveries have been made regarding many of the Old Testament stories. Discoveries such as the fragmented rock of Horeb, chariot wheels at the bottom of the Red Sea crossing, pure sulfur at the geographic location of Sodom and Gomorrah, the black top of Mount Sinai with biblically accurate surroundings, even the remains of Noah's Ark complete with animal remains/DNA.
History:
It's no secret that Jesus Christ existed two thousand years ago, even his favorite famous atheist will recognize this. So he was just another lunatic with strange claims? Or was he really who he said he was, God in the flesh coming to die for the sin of the world? There are many eyewitness accounts and testimonies to all of this, by the way. Another example to consider is the fact that all cultures have a worldwide flood that even our natural world agrees on.
Science:
The Bible is a perfect and scientifically accurate book. The search for truth along this avenue is typically the least traveled because it requires not only common sense and critical thinking skills, but a desire for truth so strong that one must overcome a life of indoctrination and confirmation bias. Understanding biblical cosmology will almost instantly demolish Satan's house of cards while providing strong validation for the Bible.
View of the World:
If the Bible is just a book of fairy tales and lies, why is it banned in more than 50 countries? Why is Jesus Christ always the object of religious mockery in Hollywood? Why is HIS name always blasphemed? Why can't the name of Jesus Christ be spoken in places like NASA or Area 51? Why does the Bible know the condition of man's heart and desires so much better than man does? How has the Bible proven to be the proverbial roadmap to our reality time and time again throughout human history?
It's possible that any one of these different angles I've listed could be enough to validate the Bible, but imagine having ALL of them. The evidence quickly becomes overwhelming! If someone sets out to prove that the Bible is true (or false), they will always come to the same conclusion. By God's design, this is how truth works.
I have now had people tell me that they have researched/considered all the evidence I have brought to their attention, but they still claim that there is no evidence for God or that the Bible is true. This tells me one of two things. Chances are they have never heard of most of this information, but are too proud/arrogant to admit it. Or that they are lying to themselves about the matter, and their cognitive dissonance will not allow them to accept any of the truth simply because they don't want it to be true. With these people, there is no amount of evidence (no matter how perfectly presented) that can bring them to the knowledge of the truth. Ultimately, whatever the case, it is clear that they did not truly seek the truth of the matter for themselves; They either have a closed mind or haven't put in the time/effort. As I alluded to above, it is simply not possible to have all this fact-based knowledge and still honestly deny the validity of the Bible.
I haven't met a single person who I thought wasn't smart enough to understand any of this information. I would argue that in over 99% of cases of a Christ rejecting life, it is not a matter of intellect... It is a heart problem.
Humble yourself. Realize that you don't know everything. Admit that you are a sinner in need of a savior. Believe that Jesus lived a sinless life, shed his blood for your sins, died, and rose from the grave three days later. Trust in Christ's finished redemptive work on the cross as if his life depended on it, because it does.
Jeremiah 29:13 (KJB)
13 And you will seek me, and find me, when you search for me with all your heart.
