In the Bible, sin means 'missing the mark'. Sin is transgressing, rebelling, disobeying God, not following his perfect standard. Due to sin, everyone was separated from God and condemned to the sad consequence of death. Sin is the cause why there is evil in the world.
Whoever lives in sin is a slave to sin and does the will of the Devil, the father of sin. Our flesh is weak and prone to error. However, God sent Jesus to free us from sin. Jesus never sinned, but He offered Himself as payment for our sins.
Now whoever receives Jesus as his Savior and lives a life separated from evil is free from the power of evil. Whoever lives with Christ will no longer be a slave to sin, and will be united once again with God!
When you sin, confess and abandon evil, God is faithful and just to forgive and purify your life.
Therefore, think about this: Whoever knows he should do good and does not do it commits sin.
James 4:17
Each one, however, is tempted by his own evil desire, being dragged and seduced by it. Then this desire, having conceived, gives birth to sin, and sin, after being consummated, gives birth to death.
James 1:14-15
Everyone who practices sin transgresses the Law; in fact, sin is the transgression of the Law.
1 John 3:4
If we claim that we are without sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:8-9
We know that the Law is spiritual; I, however, am not, for I was sold as a slave to sin. I don't understand what I'm doing. For I do not do what I desire, but what I hate. And if I do what I do not wish, I admit that the Law is good. In this case, it is no longer me who does it, but the sin that lives within me.
Romans 7:14-17
When he comes, he will convince the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. From sin, because men do not believe in me;

Against you, only you, I have sinned
and I did what you disapprove,
so that fair is your sentence
and you are right to condemn me. I know that I have been a sinner since I was born;
yes, since my mother conceived me. I know you desire the truth deep down;
and in my heart you teach me wisdom. Purify me with hyssop, and I will be pure;
wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Make me hear joy and joy again,
and the bones you crushed will rejoice. Hide the face of my sins
and blot out all my iniquities.
Psalms 51:4-9
We are like the unclean - all of us!
All our acts of righteousness
they are like filthy rags.
We wither like leaves,
and like the wind our iniquities
take us far away.

Matthew 18:15
Therefore, do not allow sin to continue dominating your mortal body, making you obey its desires. Do not offer the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; rather offer yourselves to God as one who has returned from death to life; and offer the members of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. For sin will not dominate you, because you are not under the Law, but under grace. And then? Will we sin because we are not under the Law, but under grace? In no way! Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey them as slaves, you become slaves to the one you obey: slaves to the sin that leads to death, or to the obedience that leads to righteousness? But thank God, because, although you were slaves to sin, you began to obey from the heart the form of teaching that was transmitted to you. You have been freed from sin and have become slaves of righteousness.
Romans 6:12-18
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another to be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
