Corinthians 10
Now I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our ancestors were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea.
And were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea.
And all ate the same spiritual food.
And all drank the same spiritual drink, for they drank from that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.
But with most of them God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
Therefore do not become idolaters, as some of them did; as it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.”
And let us not commit fornication, as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day.
9 And let us not tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents.
And do not grumble, as some of them also grumbled, and were destroyed by the destroyer.
Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
I speak as to wise men; judge for yourselves what I say.
The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? 17 For we, being many, are one bread and one body, for we all partake of the one bread.
Consider Israel according to the flesh: are not those who eat the sacrifices partakers of the altar?
But what do I say? That an idol is anything? Or that what is sacrificed to an idol is anything?
But I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God. And I do not want you to be partakers with demons.
You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot be partakers of the Lord's table and of the table of demons.
Or shall we provoke the Lord? Are we stronger than he?
All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify.
Let no one seek his own good, but each man the good of another.
25 Eat whatever is sold in the meat market, asking no questions for conscience' sake.
For the earth is the Lord's, and all its fullness.
And if one of the unbelievers invites you, and you are willing to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no questions for conscience' sake.
But if anyone says to you, 'This was sacrificed to idols,' do not eat it, for the sake of the one who warned you, and for conscience' sake; for the earth is the Lord's, and all its fullness.
But I say conscience, not yours, but the other man's. For why should my freedom be judged by someone else's conscience?
And if I share with grace, why am I blasphemed in the thing for which I give thanks?
So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Live in such a way that you give no offense to either the Jews or the Greeks or the church of God.
Just as I please everyone in all things, not seeking my own good but the good of many, that they may be saved.
