2 Corinthians 4:4-18

10 REASONS TO BELIEVE THAT ALL REMARIAGE AFTER DIVORCE IS PROHIBITED AS LONG AS THE SPOUSES ARE ALIVE
According to the view of the "modern church" the reasons are persistent adultery (or simply one-time adultery) or abandonment. The common cultural concept is that divorce includes the right to remarriage, so let's look at it biblically:
1) Every marriage after divorce is adultery:
Luke 16:18: “Whoever leaves his wife and marries another commits adultery; and he who marries a woman who is divorced by her husband commits adultery also.”
If both sides commit adultery then there is no reason that the party who cheated will only be in adultery, we have "letting" not "agreeing" to disconnect and assume another and there are no exceptions as many would like there to be.
2) Whether it is the husband or the wife who requests the divorce, any new marriage becomes adultery:
Mark 10:11-12: “And he said unto them, Whosoever shall leave his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. And if a woman leaves her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”
The difference there from Luke 16:18 is that not only the man, but now also the woman who leaves to enter into a new marriage, will commit adultery. Once again there is not even an exception clause, as we saw before in the Gospel according to Luke, now in Mark it is well defined.
3) Jesus reaffirmed God's purpose in creation, that no human being should separate what God has joined together:
Matthew 19:3-9: “Then the Pharisees came to him, tempting him, and saying to him, Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason? 4 But he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he that made them in the beginning made them male and female, 5 And said, Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and there shall be two in one flesh? 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no man separate. 7 They said to him: Then why did Moses command him to give her a bill of divorce, and to put her away? 8 He said to them, Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, allowed you to divorce your wives; But at first it wasn't like that. 9 But I tell you, whoever divorces his wife, not because of fornication, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries the divorced woman also commits adultery.”
And also Mark 10:2-9: “And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, tempting him: Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife? 3 But he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you? 4 And they said: Moses permitted to write a bill of divorce and to put away. 5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Because of the hardness of your hearts he hath left this commandment written unto you; 6 But from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. 7 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall be joined to his wife, 8 And the two shall become one flesh; and so they will no longer be two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore, what God has joined together, let no man separate.
The Pharisees put Jesus to the test on this subject in an attempt to make him break Deuteronomy 24:31, Jesus' response was "Moses" who by circumstantial force delivered that commandment that was temporarily in force, but which was not the will of God, the which He now ratifies by quoting Genesis 2:24, and concludes: “So they are no longer two, but one flesh” in a way that makes this the standard again as it always was before Moses. This time we now have a supposed exception clause “not because of prostitution” as we will see below what it is about.
4) Matthew 5:32 does not teach that remarriage is lawful in some cases. On the contrary, he reaffirms that post-divorce marriage is adultery.
Matthew 5:32: “But I say to you, that whoever divorces his wife, except because of fornication, causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.”
The honest and faithful exegesis on this verse, that the woman who will be sent to a second marriage as a result of her husband leaving her and this "marriage" will make her an adulteress, what draws attention is that if the "wife" who was innocently repudiated , having to marry another will become an adulteress, “whoever divorces his wife, except because of prostitution, causes her (the innocent wife who was not unfaithful) to commit adultery” would this be prejudice? In stating that marriage is indestructible, what about this exception? For now it is enough to say that it simply means that a man makes his wife an adulteress except in the case where she has made herself one, very obvious, but those who burn with the desire to marry again are blind to see this, They prefer to ignore what we have already seen and contradict the teaching of Christ. In other words, if it is because of prostitution that a man leaves his wife, then she has already become an adulteress, but if not, there is a risk of causing her to decide to marry again and thus become an adulteress. In any case, despite the betrayal forcing them to separate, we do not see permission for a new marriage. I bring an analysis of how distorted it is to accept that betrayal breaks the indissoluble covenant of a marriage, for those who insist on thinking like this about the text of Matthew 5:32, note that since an innocent wife who is divorced commits adultery when she gets married Again, it follows that a guilty wife who remarries after divorce becomes much more guilty. If someone argues that this guilty wife is free to remarry, while the innocent one who was put away is not, since the guilty wife's adultery broke the “one flesh” relationship, then this person must put herself in the inconvenient position of telling the innocent divorcee that “if you now commit adultery, it will be lawful for you to remarry” This seems to elevate the physical act of sexual intercourse to the decisive element in marital union and separation (even more relevant than an act of domestic violence). If sexual union with another breaks the bonds of marriage and legitimizes remarriage, then saying that an innocent divorcee cannot remarry (as Jesus actually says) assumes that her divorced husband is not divorcing to have sexual relations with another. another (which is very unlikely). Therefore, adultery does not nullify the “one flesh” relationship of marriage, and both the guilty and the innocent spouse are prohibited from remarrying in Matthew 5:32.
5) 1st Corinthians 7.10-11 teaches that divorce is wrong, but if it is inevitable, the person who divorces should not remarry.
1st Corinthians 7:10-11: “Nevertheless, I command the married couple, not I but the Lord, that the wife not depart from her husband. 11 But if she separates, let her remain without marrying, or be reconciled with her husband; and let the husband not leave his wife.”
Paul says that this order is not his, but the Lord's! These verses are very similar to Mark 10:11-12, which directly condemns the possibility of divorce to give way to another marriage. Very clearly Paul knows that separation will be inevitable in some cases (unrepentant adultery, or desertion, or brutality) and says using the Word of God that the person who feels constrained to separate should not seek a new marriage and should remain single. . As in Luke 16.18, Mark 10.11-12 and Matthew 5.32, the text does not explicitly consider the possibility of any exception to the prohibition of remarriage.
6) 1st Corinthians 7.39 and Romans 7.1-3 teach that remarriage is legal only after the death of the spouse.
1st Corinthians 7:39: “A married woman is bound by law as long as her husband lives; but, if your husband dies, you are free to marry whoever you want, as long as it is in the Lord.”
Romans 7:1-3: “Do you not know, brothers (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law rules over a man as long as he lives? 2 For the woman who is subject to her husband, as long as he lives, is bound by the law; but when her husband dies, she is free from her husband's law. 3 Therefore, if her husband lives, she will be called an adulteress if she belongs to another husband; but when her husband dies, she is free from the law, and so she will not be an adulteress if she belongs to another husband.”
7) Matthew 19.10-12 teaches that a special Christian grace is given by God to disciples who support themselves in single life, when they renounce remarriage in accordance with the law of Christ.
Matthew 19:10-12: “His disciples said to him, If this is the condition of a man with his wife, it is not advisable to marry. 11 But he said to them: Not everyone can receive this word, but only those to whom it has been given. 12 For there are eunuchs who were born in this way from their mother's womb; and there are eunuchs who have been castrated by men; and there are eunuchs who castrated themselves for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Whoever can receive this, let him receive it.”
In Matthew 19:9, Jesus prohibited all marriage after divorce. This seemed like an intolerable prohibition to Jesus' disciples: if you close off any possibility of remarriage, then you make marriage so risky that it would be better not to marry at all, since Either you are “trapped” living as a single person the rest of your life or you are “trapped” in a bad marriage. Jesus does not deny the tremendous difficulty of this commandment. On the contrary, he says in verse 11 that the ability to fulfill the commandment not to remarry is a divine gift to his disciples. Verse 12 is an argument that such a life is indeed possible, because there are people who for the love of the Kingdom, and also for lesser reasons, have dedicated themselves to living a single life. Jesus is not saying that some of his disciples have the ability to obey this marriage of not remarrying and others do not. He is saying that the mark of a disciple is that they will receive a gift of contingency, while non-disciples will not. The evidence for this is that 1) the parallel between Matthew 19:11 and 13:11; 2) The parallel between Matthew 19.12 and 13.9,43 and 11.15; and 3) the parallel between Matthew 19:11 and 19:26.
8) 1st Corinthians 7:15 does not mean that, when a Christian is abandoned by an unbelieving spouse, he is free to remarry. It means that the Christian is not obliged to fight in order to preserve the union. Separation is permissible if the unbelieving partner insists on it.
1st Corinthians 7:15: “But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; because in this case the brother or sister is not subject to servitude; but God has called us to peace.”
There are many reasons why the phrase “not subject to servitude” should not be construed to mean “free to remarry.” Marriage is a creation ordinance binding all human creatures to God, regardless of their faith or lack of faith. The word used for “bondage” (douloo) in verse 15 is not the same word used in verse 39, where Paul says, “A married woman is bound (deo) by the law as long as her husband lives.” Paul consistently uses deo when speaking of the legal aspect of being bound to a spouse (Romans 7:2; 1 Corinthians 7:39), or committed to someone (1 Corinthians 7:27). But when he refers to an abandoned wife not being bound in 1 Corinthians 7:15, he chooses a different word (douloo), which we would expect him to do since he is not giving an abandoned spouse the same freedom to remarry. as he gives to the spouse whose partner has died (verse 39). The last phrase of verse 15 (“God has called us to peace”) supports verse 15 better if Paul is saying that a deserted partner is not “forced to wage war” against the unbelieving deserter in order for him or her to remain. The peace that God has called us to in this context is the peace of marital harmony. Therefore, if the unbelieving partner insists on walking away, then the believing partner is not obligated to live in perpetual conflict with the unbelieving spouse, but is free and innocent to let him/her go. This interpretation also preserves faithful harmony with the intent of verses 10-11, that inevitable separation does not result in the right to remarriage.
9) 1st Corinthians 7.27-28 does not teach the right of divorced people to remarry. It teaches that engaged virgins should seriously consider singleness, but that they do not sin if they marry.
1st Corinthians 7.27-28: “Are you attached to the woman? do not seek to separate yourself. Are you free from women? Don't look for a woman. 28 But if you marry, you do not sin; and if a virgin marries, she does not sin. However, such people will have tribulation in the flesh, and I would like to spare you.”
People have argued that this passage deals with divorced people, because in verse 27 Paul asks, “Are you free from women?” Some assume he means “Are you divorced?” So what he would be saying in verse 28 is that it is not a sin when divorced people remarry. There are many reasons why this interpretation is the most unlikely. Verse 25 signals that Paul is beginning a new section and dealing with a new issue. He says “Now concerning virgins (ton parthenon) I have no commandment from the Lord; However, I give my opinion, as one who has obtained mercy from the Lord to be faithful.” He has already dealt with the problem of divorced people in verses 10-16. Now he takes up a new question, about those who are not yet married, and he signals this by saying “Now, as for virgins”. Therefore, it is very unlikely that the people referred to in verses 27 and 28 are the divorced ones. A simple statement that it is not a sin for divorced people to remarry (verse 28) contradicts verse 11, which says that a woman who has separated from her husband should remain single. Verse 36 is certainly describing the same situation seen in verses 27 and 28, but it clearly refers to a couple who are not yet married. “But if anyone thinks that he treats his virgin unworthily, if she is past her prime, and if necessary, let him do whatever he wants; she does not sin; get married.” This is the same as verse 28, where Paul says “But if you marry, you do not sin.” The reference in verse 27 to being attached to “the woman” may be misunderstood because it may suggest that the man is already married. But in Greek, the word for wife is simply “woman” and can refer to either a man's fiancée or his wife. The context dictates that the reference is to a man's virgin bride, not his wife. So, “Are you attached to a woman” and “Are you free from a woman?” it must refer to a person who is engaged or not. 10.1.5) It is significant that the verb Paul uses for “you are free” (luo) is not a word he uses for divorce. Paul's words for divorce are chorizo (verses 10,11,15; cf. Matthew 19:6) and aphelia (verses 11,12,13).
10) The exception clause of Matthew 19:9 need not imply that divorce in cases of adultery frees a person to remarry. The entire weight of the evidence given by the New Testament in the previous nine points is against this view, and there are several ways to make a good judgment of this verse so that it does not conflict with the general teaching of the New Testament that remarriage after divorce is prohibited.
Matthew 19:9: “But I say to you, that whoever divorces his wife, not because of fornication, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries the divorced woman also commits adultery.”
“not because of prostitution” refers not to adultery, but to premarital sexual fornication that a man or woman discovers in a fiancé. Given the absolute form of Jesus' denunciation against divorce and remarriage in Mark 10.11,12 and Luke 16.18, it is not preserved in Matthew whether in fact this exception clause is a loophole for divorce and remarriage. Matthew uses the word porneia (“not because of prostitution”) instead of the word moicheia, which means adultery, the logy of divorce was written as a paragraph of the Law, intended to be obeyed by members of the Church. It is inconceivable that, in a text of this nature, the author would not have maintained a clear distinction between what was unchastity and what was adultery: moicheia and not porneia would be used to describe the wife's adultery. Examining the use of porneia in John 8:41, in which the Jewish leaders indirectly accuse Jesus of being born of porneia, in other words, since they did not accept the virgin birth, they assume that Mary had committed fornication, and Jesus was the result of this act. , we focus on Matthew 1.18-20 (where it reports the birth of Jesus) Joseph and Mary are referred to as husband (aner) and wife (gunaika). Still, they are described as engaged only. This probably comes from the fact that the words for husband and wife were simply man and wife, and the fact that betrothal was a much more significant commitment than it is today. In verse 19, Joseph decides to “divorce” Mary. The word for “leave her” is the same word in Matthew 5:32 and 19:9. But most important of all, Matthew says that Joseph was “righteous” in making the decision to divorce Mary, presumably because of porneia, fornication. Therefore, as Matthew proceeds to construct the narrative of his Gospel, he finds himself in chapter 5 and then chapter 19 needing to prohibit all post-divorce marriage (as taught by Jesus) and yet permit “divorces” like the one Joseph considered as possibility, because he thought his fiancée was guilty of fornication (porneia). Thus, Matthew includes the exception clause in particular to exonerate Joseph, but also in general to show that the type of “divorce” that someone might seek during a betrothal because of fornication is not included in Jesus’ absolute prohibition.
What advice would you give to someone who is looking to get married?
DO NOT MARRY before consulting the Scriptures: marriage is indissoluble until death (Rom 7:3), it is not for everyone (Matt 19:10,11), “God hates divorce” (Mal 2:16), vote ñ if he breaks (Eccles 5:4), if he does not forgive he will not be forgiven (Matt 6:15), etc...

Getting married is not the only option for a full life and it is NOT FOR EVERYONE (Matt 19:11)... many people use the Sacred Institution to prostitute themselves legally, they get married without reflecting, without resolving the controversial points, “take the rubbish out from under the carpet”, to deliver “zero km”... and the result is a society infested with the divorce that God hates (Mal 2:16), a multitude of abandoned children, split in half, without the your family (a heinous crime)... A BIBLICAL TRUTH that few Christians accept! 📖

Paul's focus in 1 Corinthians 7 is the relationship between a man and a woman. The entire chapter is made up of a series of commandments and advice aimed at three different groups: (1) single or widowed people, (2) married people, and (3) believers who have married unbelievers. The apostle talks about celibacy, marriage and believers who had married pagans. Now let's undo the deception of Satan and false teachers regarding divorce and remarriage.
Paul prohibits divorce and does so on the basis that Jesus prohibited it (Mk 10:9; Lk 16:18; Mt 19:3-9). This is not a mere opinion of the apostle, but the direct revelation of Jesus Christ to him, since no apostle wrote under any influence other than the Holy Spirit. Paul says, "I command not I, but the Lord," in order to assure the Corinthian believers that Jesus had already taught all this in the Gospels, and that, therefore, he was saying nothing new there. When contemplating the possibility of a forced breakup, Paul expressly prohibits remarriage. It may seem like a severe doctrine for relativist and pagan “Christians” of our era, but the fact is that in Corinth there was an unusual spiritual lassitude, a characteristic that marked that church as being the most resistant to Christian discipline due to the customs of its ancient churches. beliefs in pagan gods. Nothing belonging to this life should occupy the attention of the Corinthian believers, and Paul did not give in to the sheep of that congregation. This explains why Paul's language is so severe when addressing a class of recent converts who, once upon a time, practiced orgies in devotion to all kinds of gods of ancient Greece. The four immutable rules for married people in the Church of God, prescribed in 1st Corinthians 7, are:
1. Don't separate yourself from your spouse.
2. If you separate (forced separation), stay without getting married.
3. Or, that she be reconciled with her husband.
4. That the husband does not leave his wife.
If there is betrayal within the marriage, forgiveness and prayer for the spouse to be transformed into a new creature in Christ is the correct option.
The only exception for new marriages is for widowers, at the end of the letter:
“A married woman is bound by law as long as her husband lives; but if her husband dies, she is free to marry whoever she wants, as long as she is in the Lord.” 1st Corinthians 7.39
Whatever the justifications of divorce and “remarriage” advocates, no passage of Scripture can teach otherwise than what is emphatically commanded in 1 Corinthians 7:39. This passage is the logical conclusion of the entire background we have seen so far. All of Christ's teaching on marital relationships, separation or union with third parties is concluded here. Remarriage is only permitted in the event of death (physical death; grave).
In 1st Corinthians 7, Paul is aware that a possible forced separation is inevitable. When he writes to the Corinthians on the subject, he is considering in his mind the possibility of unrepentant adultery and such cases as desertion and domestic violence. In order to make it clear to the reader that divorce and remarriage of divorcees are both condemned by God, he addresses the spouses who have suffered a forced separation and warns them based on the same words of the historical Jesus. These individuals abandoned in marriage must remain celibate, as God has called them to peace and they are not fated to force anyone to maintain ties with them.
Therefore, Luke 16.18, Mark 10.11-12 and Matthew 19.3-11 are the standards that the apostle Paul has in mind when he deals with the subject with the Church of Christ in the dispensation of grace. It is for this reason that he says: “... I command the married couple, not I, but the Lord”, alluding to what Jesus had already said in the Gospels, but which needed to be emphasized for a people who are difficult to understand.

If a man divorces his first wife, he is not free to marry another woman unless his wife has died.
The Bible says nothing can sanctify or make legal a "marriage" with a second wife, not the passage of time, not the conversion of one or both partners, not custom, not human law, not public or popular opinion , nor the decree or "blessing" of the church can make a second "marriage" licit while the first spouse is still alive."
