HOW DID THE APOSTLES DIED?
1. MATTHEW
Suffered martyrdom in Ethiopia, killed by a sword wound.
2. MILESTONES
He died in Alexandria, Egypt, after being dragged by horses through the streets until he died.
3. LUKE
He was hanged in Greece as a result of his tremendous work of preaching to the lost.
4. JOHN
Facing martyrdom, when he was fried in a large basin of boiling oil during a wave of persecution in Rome. However, he was miraculously saved from death.
John was then sentenced to the mines on the island of Patmos. He wrote his prophetic book of Revelation on the island of Patmos. The apostle John was later released and returned to serve as bishop of Edessa in modern-day Türkiye. He died an old man, the only apostle to die in peace.
5. PEDRO
He was crucified upside down on a ❌-shaped cross.
According to church tradition it was because he told his tormentors that he felt unworthy of dying in the same way that Yahushuah Hamashiah had died.
6. TIAGO
The leader of the church in Jerusalem was thrown more than a hundred feet down from the southeast spire of the temple when he refused to deny his faith in the Messiah. When they discovered he survived the fall, his enemies beat him to death with a club.
* This was the same pinnacle where Satan took Yahushuah during the temptation.
7. JAMES, son of Zebedee,
he was a fisherman by trade when Yahushuah called him to a life of ministry. As a strong church leader, James was beheaded in Jerusalem. The Roman officer guarding James watched in amazement as James defended his faith at his trial. Later, the officer walked alongside Tiago to the execution site. Overcome with conviction, he declared his new faith to the judge and knelt beside James to accept beheading as a Son of the Most High.
8. BARTHOLOMEW
Also known as Nathaniel, he was a missionary to Asia. He testified to our Savior in present day Türkiye. Bartholomew was martyred for his preaching in Armenia, where he was flayed to death with a whip.
9. ANDRE
He was crucified on a ❌-shaped cross in Patras, Greece. After being severely whipped by seven soldiers, they tied his body to the cross with ropes to prolong his agony. His followers reported that, as he was led toward the cross, Andrew greeted it with these words: 'Much have I desired and hoped for this hour. The cross has been consecrated by the body of the Messiah hanging upon it'. He continued to preach to his torturers for two days until he expired.
10. TOMÉ
He was speared in India during one of his missionary journeys to establish the church in the Sub-continent.
11. JUDAS
He was speared to death when he refused to deny his faith in the Messiah.
12. MATTIAS
The apostle chosen to replace the traitor Judas Iscariot was stoned and then beheaded.
13. PAULO
He was tortured and then beheaded by the evil emperor Nero in Rome in AD 67. Paul endured a long imprisonment, which allowed him to write his many epistles to the churches he had formed throughout the Roman Empire. These letters, which taught many of the fundamental doctrines of Christianity, form a large part of the New Testament.
