Giving is an act of love. When we give an offering to God, we recognize that everything we have comes from him. Our trust is in God, not money. We can also offer to God: our life, our praise, our prayer.
The Bible also speaks of offerings to help other people. "There is more joy in giving than in receiving." Offering help, money, friendship, time to someone is showing God's love. Offering is a way of putting our faith into action.
Each one should give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under obligation, for God loves a cheerful giver.
