Mark 5:21-43

21 Jesus returned to the west side of the lake, and many people came to meet him on the shore.

22 A man named Jairus, the ruler of the synagogue, went and fell at Jesus' feet,

23 asking with great insistence: —My daughter is dying! Come with me and lay your hands on her so she will heal and live!

24 And Jesus went with him. A large crowd came along and pressed in on him from all sides.

25 A woman arrived there who had been bleeding for twelve years.

26 She had spent everything she had, treating herself to many doctors. These made her suffer a lot; but instead of getting better, she had gotten worse and worse.

27 She had heard about Jesus; then she entered the midst of the crowd and, coming up behind him, touched his cloak,

28 her because she thought like this: “If I just touch his cloak, I will be healed. ”

29 Soon the blood stopped flowing, and she was sure she was healed.

30 Immediately Jesus felt that power had gone out of him. Then he turned in the crowd and asked, "Who touched my cloak?"

31 The disciples replied, "Do you see how these people are squeezing you from all sides and you still ask this?"

32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it.

33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, threw herself at his feet, trembling with fear, and told him everything.

34 And Jesus said, “My daughter, you got well because you had faith. Go in peace; you are free from your suffering.

35 While Jesus was still speaking, some servants from Jairus' house arrived and said, "Your Jairus, the girl is already dead." Don't bother the Master anymore.

36 But Jesus did not care about the news and said to Jairus, “Do not be afraid; have faith!

37 Jesus let Peter and the brothers James and John go with him, and no one else.

38 When they entered Jairus' house, Jesus found there a general confusion, with everyone crying and screaming.

39 Then he said, “Why so much crying and so much confusion? The girl did not die; she is sleeping.

40 Then they began to make fun of him. But Jesus ordered them all to leave and, together with the three disciples and the girl's parents, went into the room where she was.

41 He took her by the hand and said: — “Talitá cumi! ” (This means, “Girl, I say to you: Get up!” )

42 Immediately, the girl, who was twelve years old, got up and began to walk. And everyone was very surprised.

43 Then Jesus ordered them not to spread the news of this healing at all. And he ordered them to give the girl food.

And when Jesus was again passing by in a boat to the other side, a great multitude gathered to him; and he was by the sea.

And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue, named Jairus, arrived, and when he saw him, he fell down at his feet.

And he besought him much, saying, My daughter is at death; I beg you, come and lay your hands on her, that she may be healed and live.

And he went with him, and a great multitude followed him, and pressed him.

And a certain woman who had had an issue of blood for twelve years,

And that she had suffered a lot with many doctors, and spent all she had, profiting nothing from it, before going worse;

Hearing about Jesus, she came from behind in the crowd and touched his garment.

For he said: If I only touch his garments, I shall be healed.

And then the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was already cured of that evil.

And immediately Jesus, knowing that his virtue had gone out, turned to the crowd, and said, Who touched my clothes?

And his disciples said to him, You see the crowd pressing you, and you say, Who touched me?

And he looked around to see what it had done.

Then the woman, who knew what had happened to her, fearing and trembling, came and fell down before him, and told him the whole truth.

And he said to her: Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.

While he was still speaking, there came some of the ruler of the synagogue, to whom they said, Your daughter is dead; Why do you annoy the Master more?

And Jesus, having heard these words, said to the ruler of the synagogue: Fear not, only believe.

And he did not allow anyone to follow him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James.

And when he had come to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, he saw the commotion, and those who were weeping much and mourning.

And going in, he said to them, Why do you fuss and weep? The girl is not dead, but she sleeps.

And they laughed at him; but when he had brought them out, he took the girl's father and mother with him, and those who were with him, and went in where the girl was lying.

And taking the girl's hand, he said to her: Talitha cumi; which, translated, is: Girl, I say to you, get up.

And immediately the girl arose, and she walked, for she was twelve years old; and they were astonished with great astonishment.

And she expressly commanded them that no one should know; and he said to give him something to eat.
