ECLIPSE SOLAR 21/08/2017 ... NEXT MONDAY ...

A SOLAR ECLIPSE CAN REPRESENT A SIGN FOR THE IMMEDIATE JUDGMENT AND, AT THE SAME TIME, A SIGN THAT POINTS AN OPPORTUNITY OF REPENTANCE
WE SEE THAT IN THE STORY OF JONAS.

JOEL 2: 30-31

30 And I will show wonders in the heavens, and in the earth, blood and fire, and pillars of smoke.
31 The converter of a maiden in darkness, and the moon in blood, before the great and terrible day of the LORD cometh.

JOEL 3: 15-16

15 The sun and the moon shall be black, and as the stars shall withdraw their brightness.
16 And the LORD shall roar from Zion, and from Jerusalem shall he make his voice heard; And the heavens and the earth shall tremble: but the LORD shall be the refuge of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.

Luke 21: 25-28

The continuous prophetic sermon: the return of the Son of Man
(Mt 24: 29-31 Mark 13: 24-27)
25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; And in the earth anguish of the nations, in perplexity by the roaring of the sea and the waves.
26 Men fainting from terror, in expectation of things to come to the world; For as the virtues of the heavens are shaken.
27 And then shall they see the coming of the Son of man in the cloud with power and great glory.
28 Now when these things begin to happen, look up and rise as your heads, for your redemption is at hand.

It will be the most observed solar eclipse in history!

Very little is left for the great solar eclipse of August 21, which will cross the entire US territory! Observers on the 113-mile trajectory where a shadow of the eclipse will be projected will see the sun slowly darken as the moon enters in front of it, until the entire solar disk is obscured by the lunar disk - Turn over night, literally!

The US is preparing in various ways for solar eclipse observations. Create the best possible way. Although it has not yet happened, this is one of the most observed astronomical events in recent history, after all, it is not all day and an eclipse can be observed in practically an entire country ... and, on top of that, one of the largest United States United.

Nineveh

The Hebrew term nineweh is a translation of the Assyrian Ninua (in ancient Babylonian, Ninuwa), which in turn is transliteration of the oldest Sumerian name yet, Nina name of the goddess Istar, written with a sign representing a fish inside a womb. According to Genesis 10:11 Nineveh was one of the northern cities founded by Nimrod or Asshur after his departure from Babylon. A capital city and capital of Assyria.

In 2003 a. C. The temple of the goddess Istar in Nineveh was founded by Manishtisu, son of Sargom. Situation in Nineveh.

Geographically: Nineveh was located east of the northern Tigris River, and about 960 km from Israel, a journey of three months in ancient times. It was one of the oldest cities in the world, established by Nimrod (Gen 10:11). It is estimated that its population was 600,000, including 120,000 children and many animals. about. Calah, capital of the Assyrian empire, and other cities were in the vicinity. Although the inner wall of the city was less than five kilometers in diameter, its villages and suburbs spread over a circumference of more than twenty-two miles. Perimeter of the city (including adjacent land) = about 96 km. The external wall was 96 km long, 30 meters high and a sufficient width for three carts driven side by side. At intervals, throughout the wall, there were 50 towers of 60 meters of height for the service of surveillance realized by the sentinels.

Religiously: The Assyrian had a polytheistic idolatrous people. A trend towards monotheism in Assyria under the Adad-nirari government was initiated because of its monolatry. He recommended:? Put your trust in Nebo; Do not trust another god.? However, several cataclysms occurred during those years, which may have been used to prepare the people. In 765 and 759 great calamities fell upon the city, and on June 15, 763 there was a total solar eclipse. At that time the worship of the senses was a service to the gods, temples took the place of brothels, lovers of both sexes were consecrated to the service of the temple and donations for their services went to the temple boxes as offerings to the deity.

The myths and customs of the Assyrian people mirror the most horrible barbarism, overflowing with magical cults, sensuality, primitive and coarse, to gods to semi-gods. The rites related to the goddesses of fertility were of particular significance.

Politically: Assyria was in decline at this time. This decline had begun with the death of Adad-nirari III in 782, and continued until the coming of Tiglathpileser III in 745. After Adad-nirari reigned Shalmaneser IV (782-773) and Asurdan III (773-754) . The visiting Jonas was probably during the reign of this último.O repentance of Nineveh before Jonah's preaching, took place during the reign of one of these two Assyrian kings: During the reign of Adad Nirari III (810-783), there was a movement in (Or future help) of the preaching of Jonah. During the reign of Assur-Dan III (771-754 BC). In whose administration an epidemic occurred in 765 BCE, the eclipse of the sun at 763 BC. And a second epidemic in 759 BC were events considered by the ancients as evidence of the divine judgment, and could therefore have prepared the people of the Assyrian capital for the message of Jonah and the possible revival.

Morally: The inhabitants of Nineveh were known as a sensual and cruel race. They lived on looting and prided themselves on the piles of human heads they carried with violent looting from other cities. They were fortified with an inner and an outer wall.

Condemned malice included idolatry and extreme cruelty against prisoners of war.

After attacking a city, they relentlessly slaughtered the inhabitants, deporting the rest of the population to other parts of the Empire. Many people died as a result of marches forced into exile. The leaders of the conquered nations were tortured without mercy, and executed.

The brutality, cruelty and atrocity of the Ninevites were known. Known as a bloody city because it had massacred several peoples and nations, a city full of lies, prey and robbery ... The Assyrians were not only cruel but also extremely immoral. Externally, Nineveh looked attractive, but internally she was filled with ritual prostitution and immorality. The city was also given to witchcraft.

Culture: The Ninivites were educated.

Although the Assyrian Empire under Assurbanipal was only in 660 BC ... and it created the Library, it used what existed in Assyria of historical content and added what was necessary to effect the intelligentsia of the Assyrian people.

After a long series of bloodthirsty tyrants, the Assyrian Assurbanipal is made an invaluable service, this one ordered to copy the works of the acádica literature, had compiled dictionaries and grammars in the different languages spoken in the gigantic empire.

The library of Nineveh, founded by him, was the largest and most important library of the Ancient East bringing us knowledge about the thinking and poetry of the Fertile Crescent to the earliest times.

Although sophisticated and sinful, its inhabitants listened to the prophet's warning. The commercial and political language of the peoples of the time was Aramaic and Akkadian.

Conclusion: Jonah was commissioned to go to Nineveh an unpleasant task for an Israelite, the atrocities of the Assyrians who later terrified the nations by submitting them to Tiglath-Pileses III, perhaps had already been practiced by that time. From the human point of view, Assyria was the last place where an Israeli would like to go on a missionary adventure. Jonah knew well the sufferings that had come to Syria by repeating the recent Assyrian attacks.

Assyria was a threat to Israel from the time of Onri (about 880 BC) and had forced the Israelites to pay taxes in the last fifty years until Jeroboam II became king. Jeroboam shook this yoke about 790 and extended the northern kingdom to its greatest limit since Solomon. At the time of Jonah, Israel felt secure and was on the rise, while Assyria was declining.

The Assyrians were known in the ancient world for the extreme cruelty with which the peoples subdued by it were questioned at times if the repentance of Nineveh was sincere.

The answer of the Book of Jonah is that God considered it sincere, for it suspends the judgment which had been notified to them (3:10). Jesus also testified that they repented at the preaching of Jonah (Matt. 12:41). What Israel stopped doing with the preaching of the Messiah.

Although the Book records the unexpected repentance of one of the greatest tyrants of ancient history, its greatest emphasis is on repentance or change of Jonah. Nineveh's repentance occupies a chapter, but the story of Jonah's preparation and subsequent training are presented in 3 chapters (1, 2, and 4) it seems that God had more difficulty perfecting Jonah than all the people of Nineveh.

When the prophet was led to the point of obedience, the revival occurred naturally. Jonas's preparation was carried out in stages. The fish's experience prepared him for Nineveh, but he needed more training to return to Israel. If the repentance of the city in chapter 3 surprises everyone, the disappointed prophet of chapter 4 causes us a shock. He seems to be more interested in his prophecy being fulfilled, as a credit to his profession, than the city of Nineveh is spared from divine judgment. This is how the story ends, leaving the reader completely disappointed in the attitude of the prophet. Jonas seems to be hopelessly selfish and fanatical, until we remember that he wrote without gilding his own image at the end. This image was obviously intended to impress and humiliate Israel, because the attitude of the prophet was a reflection of the attitude of the people.

The Jews were so involved in their own affairs and prosperity of the golden age of Jeroboam II that they had lost sight of their mission as covenant people. The fall of the great Nineveh city, as foretold by the prophets Nahum and Zephaniah, occurred in August 612 BC.
