WHO ARE YOU?

ARE YOU CHRISTIAN (Ã)? IF YES, JESUS CALLS US TO POSITION OURSELVES...

IT'S NOT PREJUDICE! IT'S ATTITUDE! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

8 For once you were darkness 🌑, but now you are light 💡 in the Lord; walk like children of light 👣

9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, and righteousness, and truth);

10 Approving what is pleasing to the Lord.👍

⚠️11 And do not communicate with the unfruitful works 🚨 of darkness, but rather condemn them.👆 👆

12 For what they do in secret, until they speak, is dishonest.

13 But all these things are made manifest, being condemned by the light, because the light manifests all things.

😴14 Therefore it says: Awake, you who sleep, and rise from the dead, and Christ will enlighten you.💡📢

15 Therefore, see how you walk, not as fools but as wise men,

👣

16 Redeeming time; because the days are bad.🔱👹

17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

18 And do not get drunk with wine🍷, in which there is strife, but be filled with the Spirit⚔️;

19 Speaking to one another in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs; singing and chanting 🎼🎵🎶 to the Lord in your heart 💖 ;

20 Always giving thanks for everything to our God and Father, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

21 Submitting yourselves to one another in the fear of God.👈

Ephesians 5:8-21

ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE REMOVES SOBRIETY, GOOD SENSE. PEOPLE IN THESE CONDITIONS MAY FOR AWESOME REASONS GET INVOLVED IN ARGUMENTS, FIGHTS, STRUGGLES AND EVEN MURDER.

It is not rare that we see cases in the media of traffic accidents, traffic fights, arguments over football, jealousy fights with a partner that end in death. This is the devil's intention when inciting conflicting situations involving alcoholic beverages. Not to mention "good night cinderella" scams, thefts and cases of adultery that destroy families...

Wine is mocking

and the fermented drink provokes quarrels;

it is not wise to be dominated by them.

Proverbs 20:1

Do not get drunk with wine, which leads to debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,

Isaiah 24:7

Don't destroy God's work for the sake of food. All food is pure, but it is wrong to eat anything that causes others to stumble. It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything else that will cause your brother to fall.

Romans 14:20-21

This statement is trustworthy: If anyone wants to be a bishop, he wants a noble office. It is necessary, therefore, that the bishop be blameless, the husband of one wife, moderate, sensible, respectable, hospitable, and apt to teach; he should not be addicted to wine or violent, but gentle, peaceful and not attached to money.

1 Timothy 3:1-3

In like manner, let him teach the older women to be reverent in their way of life, not to be slanderers nor slaves to much wine, but to be able to teach what is good.

Titus 2:3

Deacons likewise ought to be worthy, men of their word, not fond of too much wine or dishonest gain.

However, be careful, do not drink wine or any other fermented drink, and do not eat anything unclean; and no razor will be passed over the head of the child you are about to have, because the child will be a Nazirite, consecrated to God from birth; he will initiate the deliverance of Israel from the hand of the Philistines."

Judges 13:4-5

Whose are the woes?

EVERYTHING THAT IS IMMORAL IS TOLERATED AT CARNIVAL. THIS MAKES THE HUMAN BEING DESTROY EVEN MORE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PIT OF SIN AND TURN AWAY FROM THE CREATOR... IF YOU AUTOMATICALLY FAVOR THE DESIRES OF YOUR FLESH, YOU TURN AWAY FROM THE HOLINESS THAT THE CREATOR DEPRIVES US TO HAVE...

CARNIVAL GIVES LEGALITY FOR SINS TO FLOWER AND OPEN LOOPS FOR OTHER SINS, CAUSING DESTRUCTION OF FAMILIES!!! THEREFORE, WE SEE MANY TRAGEDIES AT THIS TIME!

📌 SINS OPENS LOOPS FOR BAD THINGS TO HAPPEN...THIS IS WHY SIN IS SO HARMFUL AND WE SHOULD AT ALL COSTS, AVOID IT! EVERY KIND OF SIN OPENS A CHANCE FOR THE DEVIL! WE ARE SINNERS BUT, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SINS WITHOUT INTENTION AND SIN VOLUNTARY!

A breach is a hole, a crack, a vulnerable part in some structure or object. In the Bible this word appears with 3 distinct meanings:

Literal sense - slit

"Give a gap" - make room or space

"Stand in the gap" - like Moses (Exodus 33:22)

The expression "give a gap" means to give space or place for something to happen or someone to come in and intervene.

👀 "Therefore, watch, because you do not know the day or the hour!

Matthew 25:13

⚠️ Be alert and watch. The Devil, your enemy, prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

1 Peter 5:8

📢 Be vigilant, stand firm in the faith, be men of courage, be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13

😴 Therefore, let us not sleep like the others, but let us be attentive and sober;

1 Thessalonians 5:6

WILL YOU ENJOY CARNIVAL?

Know: Prostitution is a misrepresentation of the intimate and special relationship that marriage should be. Prostitution spoils that relationship and values the wrong things: lust over love, childishness over responsibility, abuse over affection...

In the Bible prostitution also has a spiritual meaning. The infidelity of those who prostitute themselves is like the infidelity of those who abandon God to worship idols. God wants to restore relationships and hearts to be pure and faithful again.

God's will is that you be sanctified: abstain from sexual immorality.

1 Thessalonians 4:3

"Let no one dishonor his daughter by making her a harlot; otherwise, the land will be given over to fornication and will be filled with wickedness.

Leviticus 19:29

Marriage must be honored by all; the marriage bed, kept pure; for God will judge the immoral and adulterers.

Hebrews 13:4

"Their actions do not allow them

return to your God.

A spirit of prostitution

it is in their hearts;

do not recognize the Lord.

Hosea 5:4

Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I take the members of Christ and unite them with a harlot? In no way! Do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For as it is written, "The two shall be one flesh." But he that is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him.

1 Corinthians 6:15-17

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins that a man commits he commits outside the body; but whoever sins sexually, sins against his own body.

1 Corinthians 6:18

Now the works of the flesh are manifest: sexual immorality, impurity and licentiousness; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before: Those who practice these things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

"No Israelite, male or female, may become a prostitute for worship. Do not bring the earnings of a harlot or harlot into the sanctuary of the LORD your God to pay a vow, for the LORD your God , for both has repugnance.

Deuteronomy 23:17-18

The man who loves wisdom

give joy to your father,

but who goes with prostitutes

ends your fortune.

Proverbs 29:3

My son, give me his heart;

keep your eyes

in my ways, for the harlot is a deep pit,

and the perverted woman is a narrow well.

Proverbs 23:26-27

Don't covet in your heart your beauty

nor be seduced by their looks, for the price of a prostitute

is a piece of bread,

but the adulteress goes hunting

of precious lives.

Proverbs 6:25-26

Let us behave with decency, as one who acts in daylight, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and depravity, not in quarrel and envy.

Romans 13:13

"Which of the two did the father's will?"

"The first," they replied.

Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the harlots are entering the kingdom of God before you. For John came to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the harlots did. even after seeing this, you did not repent or believe him.

Matthew 21:31-32

Soon after Gideon died, the Israelites went back to prostituting themselves with the Baals, worshiping them. They made Baal-berith their god and did not remember the LORD their God, who had delivered them out of the hand of their enemies around.

Judges 8:33-34

Rejoice not, O Israel;

don't be happy

like other nations.

'Cause you prostituted yourself,

forsaking their God;

you love prostitution wages

on every threshing floor.

Hosea 9:1

See how the faithful city

became a prostitute!

before full of justice

and inhabited by righteousness,

now it's full of killers!

Isaiah 1:21

Now let their fornication and the lifeless idols of their kings put away from me, and I will live among them forever.

Ezekiel 43:9

In the Bible, there are many warnings against immoral attitudes. Immorality is an offense to God, because He is holy. For this reason, God rejoices when people flee from immorality and live for his glory.

Immorality in the Bible:

especially those who follow the unclean desires of the flesh and despise authority. Insolent and arrogant, such men are not afraid to defame heavenly beings;

2 Peter 2:10

Outside are the dogs, those who practice witchcraft, those who commit sexual immoralities, murderers, idolaters and all who love and practice lies.

Revelation 22:15

Now the works of the flesh are manifest: sexual immorality, impurity and licentiousness; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before: Those who practice these things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins that a man commits he commits outside the body; but whoever sins sexually, sins against his own body.

1 Corinthians 6:18

But I say, whoever looks at a woman and lusts after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Matthew 5:28

But the cowards, the unbelievers, the depraved, the murderers, those who commit sexual immorality, those who practice witchcraft, idolaters and all liars - their place will be in the lake of fire that burns with brimstone. This is the second death."

Revelation 21:8

Among you there should not be even a mention of sexual immorality, nor of any kind of impurity and covetousness; for these things are not fit for the saints.

Ephesians 5:3

but because of immorality, each should have his wife and each woman her own husband.

1 Corinthians 7:2

God's will is that you be sanctified: abstain from sexual immorality.

1 Thessalonians 4:3

Flee the evil desires of youth and follow righteousness, faith, love and peace with those who call on the Lord with a pure heart.

2 Timothy 2:22

In a similar way to these, Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them indulged in immorality and unnatural sexual relations. Being under the punishment of eternal fire, they serve as an example.

 TETELESTAI

"... having blotted out the writing of debt, which was against us in his ordinances, which in any way was contrary to us, and took it out of the midst of us, nailing it to the cross..." Col 2. 14.

"TETELESTAI" is a Greek expression that can be translated as "it is finished", "fully paid" or "debt canceled". In the first century, when a criminal was arrested, his misdeeds were recorded on a papyrus known as a "debt note" or "debt writing". When serving the sentence and when the time for his freedom arrived, the judge responsible for the release of the convict, crossed out the ballot, especially in the part where the crimes were pointed out, and, at the bottom, wrote TETELESTAI. Ready! The individual no longer owed anything to justice. He was free from condemnation and now he could enjoy peace and freedom.

The apostle Paul appropriates this juridical figure to convey to us the depth of the scope of Christ's redemptive work, because, as sinners that we are, there is also a "debt note" against us, namely, a series of transgressions committed throughout the life. This ballot constitutes a powerful instrument of accusation. It silences us, humiliates us, because there is no way to contradict it; there is no denying it. In it are recorded all our wickedness, all our lies, all the perversity we practice. It points to the destruction of those who are there (Rev 20. 12).

However, the apostle Paul declares that Christ "blotted out the handwriting of debt from among us, nailing it to the cross." That is, Jesus Christ with his vicarious (substitutive) death paid the debt we owed to God. It is worth remembering that on the cross of Calvary, according to the Gospel of John (19. 30), Christ declared “It is finished!” (TETELESTAI), even being his last word.

Finished! Fully paid! This is our true situation in Christ in what the satisfaction of divine justice consists. It doesn't matter what we've done. No matter the extent and gravity of our sin. In Christ Jesus “there is no condemnation” (Rom. 8:1).

So when bad memories from the distant or recent past come up and we feel guilty and threatened in our peace, just remember what Christ has done for us. Let us remember his last word about us: TETELESTAI! All our sins have been forgiven by the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ! This blood that scratched the ballot that was against us, freeing us from condemnation once and for all! Once and for all!

It is common to find Christians unsure about the fact that they do not feel fully forgiven by God. Some are under the impression that they need to pray one more time in order, who knows, to be truly forgiven by the Lord. However, the Holy Scriptures do not guide us to “feel the forgiveness” of God, but to believe that, in Christ, He has already forgiven us. Therefore, it is not a matter of feeling, but of faith in the person of Jesus Christ and in the effectiveness of the work that He has done.

Another issue that also torments some brothers is the fear that, depending on what they did in the past, they need to “break some curse” or “annull some pact”, because, otherwise, they will always be subject to some onslaught of satan and may have some sort of evil influence in their lives. Thus, for such, at any time, the devil can come “to collect the bill” and, therefore, it is necessary to participate in some cult or liberation chain.

This practice, although common, especially in neo-Pentecostal communities, is foreign to the teaching of the Holy Scriptures. Paul, says that the debt was cancelled, moreover, in verse 15 of chapter 2 of the letter to the Colossians, the apostle insists that “having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a public spectacle of them, and triumphed over them in the cross... ”

If in verse 14, Paul uses a legal scene, as we said above, in this he uses a military reality well known at the time, because when two nations went to war, it was common for the winning army to bring the defeated army to its territory and, in a public ceremony, the defeated soldiers had their clothes and other belongings removed until they were completely naked.

This stripping was intended to humiliate the defeated enemy, demonstrating that he was totally subjugated. This is exactly what Paul is teaching the Colossian believers! Christ defeated and humbled the devil, stripping him of any and all authority he had to accuse, tempt, and harm us. Christ made his enemies “the footstool of his feet” (Eph 1:20-22). We don't need to fear the devil. He is defeated, dispossessed, and humbled by the Lord Jesus Christ. The debt is paid! TETELESTAI!

All our sins have been forgiven! What good thing! All our curses were taken to the cross and there annihilated (Isaiah 53). How wonderful! We are free! Free to live the fullness of the life of Christ.

To Him and Him alone be praise, and honor, and glory, and power forever and ever!

Amen! And amen!

Soli Deo Gloria!

HAPPY EASTER!!!

The Meaning of the Male Pascal Lamb

It is wonderful to see how the LORD has built the Scriptures with such a vast body of information, arranged in several distinct and deep layers, in such a way that they surprise and ecstatic even the most dedicated and obstinate students of His word. It is clear that the Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek texts are rich in meaning, not only for the words themselves, but for what they represent so richly in their multiple meanings and symbologies, as well as for their numerical values and structures that show the beauty, wisdom and majesty of the Supreme mathematician. In addition, it is also interesting how the LORD likes to play with words, making puns to hide part of his mysteries and purposes, in such a way that only with a knowledge of the original languages one is able to perceive them... here is an example:

“Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, On the tenth of this month, each one shall take for himself a lamb, according to the house of his fathers, a lamb for each family. But if the family is too small for a lamb, then he will invite his nearest neighbor, according to the number of souls; according to what each one can eat, there you shall calculate how many are enough for the lamb. The lamb shall be without blemish, male ( זכר zakar ) a year old; you may take a lamb or a goat;” (Exodus 12:3-5)

In the passage quoted above there are several important and profound details, but in this article I will stick only to the word used to designate the flawless lamb of the Passover sacrifice by the people of Israel as being a male lamb, whose word in the original is זכר "zakar ” … the curious play on words here is that זכר zakar also means: remember, record, recall, bring to mind.

What then does this mean and what does it represent?! Well… when the Passover Lamb was killed, it implies that the “zakar” was killed… destroyed. And to kill the zakar is to end the memory, it is to destroy the memory, it is to erase the memory; no longer bringing the memories to mind. When the Messiah, the Christ, died on Passover as the Ultimate Paschal Lamb, He was also the zakar, the Lamb without blemish… the male Lamb… the zakar who bore our sins.

When Jesus died on the cross, it was the death of the zakar. When the zakar died, all memory of our guilt, of our sins and iniquities, was destroyed in the death of the zakar, and the memory of our shame is no more. That's why the prophet Jeremiah when he talks about the New Covenant promised by God, in chapter 31, he writes...

“For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the LORD; I will be their God, and they will be My people. They shall never teach each one his neighbor, nor each one his brother, saying, Know the LORD, for they shall all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, saith the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquities and their sins I will never remember ( זכר zakar ).” (Jeremiah 31:33,34)

See how things are linked?! Notice the beauty of the “play on words” used by the LORD through the Hebrew language?! God emphasizes that in the New Covenant He would forgive the iniquities and sins of the people and that He would never remember them!!! When Jesus fulfilled the New Covenant, made through His blood (see Matthew 26:26-28), He granted that forgiveness, for He was the Lamb without blemish, male … the zakar ( זכר ) … the One who would carry the memory (the record) and the “burden” of all sins and iniquities with himself to death… to destruction, where those memories, those recollections, would never come back to mind… that is not to say that the LORD would have “amnesia” and “forget” effectively from sins, after all due to His attribute of Omniscience, "forgetting" is something impossible for the Almighty; what is taking place here is a matter of law… of justice… that means that these sins have lost their damning power and can no longer be used to condemn you before the Just Judge of the entire universe, since your “recording for legal purposes” it was destroyed in the death of the Lamb, and now those who are signed into the New Covenant through Christ are freed from the condemnation of sin.

Understand this, when you accept the Messiah as your Passover Lamb, when you believe in the Son of God and the work done by Him on your behalf, then you are cleansed from your sins and your iniquities and the LORD will never bring them back to life. remembrance, you are free from the condemnation and power of sin. This is why the apostle Paul and the author of Hebrews write…

A WARNING TO OUR DAYS...

 WHO WAS ELI?

carelessness
learn to pronounce
feminine noun
1.
characteristic of being careless ('bored'); boredom, annoyance, apathy.
two.
disgust, displeasure.

“leniency” derives from the Latin (lenitate) and means mildness, gentleness, meekness. slow, no attitude.

Eli was the high priest in the time of the prophet Samuel's youth. In addition to the priesthood, Eli also served as a judge of Israel for forty years (1 Samuel 4:18). Eli's story in the Bible was marked not only by his contact with young Samuel, but mainly by the rebellion of his children.

Eli was a descendant of Aaron through Ithamar

(cf. 1 Samuel 22:20; 1 Kings 2:27; 1 Chronicles 24:3) But his offspring are not named in the 1 Chronicles 6 list because of God's judgment on his family.

The priest Eli and Samuel

Eli ministered in the Tabernacle that had been raised in Shiloh after the time of wandering in the wilderness (cf. Joshua 18:1; Judges 18:31). He appears in the biblical narrative in the episode where Anna, Elkanah's wife, prayed to God for a son.

Initially the high priest Eli showed a certain lack of spiritual sensitivity by misinterpreting Hannah's attitude.

He thought that devoted woman was drunk (1 Samuel 1:14). But after she explained her reasons to him, Eli sent her away with a blessing (1 Samuel 1:17).

God granted Hannah's request and opened her womb. Hannah gave birth to Samuel and as soon as she fulfilled the vow she had made to the Lord. She took the boy to Shiloh to have a life dedicated to the service of God. This means that little Samuel was in the care of the high priest Eli (1 Samuel 3:1). Later, it was Eli himself who instructed Samuel in perceiving the voice of the Lord calling to him (1 Samuel 3:9). At that time Eli was already an old man (1 Samuel 2:22).

The sins of Eli's sons

Eli's Big Problem Was His Children

. He was the father of two unbelieving men, Hophni and Phinehas. As Eli was very old, his sons took on more and more responsibilities in the service of the Tabernacle.

But Eli's two sons had no fear of God and no respect for their father. They transgressed God's Law in many ways. They violated the regulations concerning offerings and sacrifices to the Lord, and they appropriated what was consecrated to God (1 Samuel 2:12). In addition, they seduced women who voluntarily engaged in some service related to the functioning of the Tabernacle.

The sinful and immoral practice of the sons of Eli was known throughout Israel and had a negative influence on the people (1 Samuel 2:22-24). The Bible shows Eli's pathetic attempt to rebuke his sons. But they were already seared in their minds by sin and had reached a level of hardening so deep that God's judgment on them was inevitable (1 Samuel 2:25).

God's Judgment on the House of Eli

Eli is always remembered as a tragic figure who had no control over his own home. Although he does not appear in the Bible directly participating in his children's sins, he ended up participating in them by omission. The fatal mistake that Eli made was to honor his sons more than the Lord. Furthermore, it seems that he ended up benefiting indirectly from the greedy behavior of his children (1 Samuel 2:29).

For all this God poured out his judgment on the house of Eli. Rather, He sent a prophet, about whom we know nothing, but who announced the judgment of the Lord. The man of God denounced the way Eli and his sons neglected the service of God and despised the great gift of the priestly office entrusted to them.

Then the prophet warned that the priestly lineage in Israel would no longer be counted through his house. In practice, this meant that the priestly lineage came to be considered through the descent of Eleazar, the other son of Aaron. This same message was again confirmed through the young prophet Samuel (1 Samuel 3:1-21).

God also warned Eli that his sons would die on the same day, and that he would be the last elderly man in his household. All others would die in their prime (1 Samuel 2:32,33).

Later, many of Eli's descendants were decimated during Saul's massacre at Nob (1 Samuel 22:17-19). In David's day, the descendants of the priests through Eleazar were twice as numerous as those who descended from Ithamar, that is, from the house of Eli (1 Chronicles 24:4). Finally, during the rule of King Solomon, Abiathar, who was a descendant of Eli, was removed from the priesthood and the house of Eleazar definitely prevailed (1 Kings 2:26-27).

Eli's death

Eli's death took place in a context of true tragedy. The Israelites were at war with the Philistines and the sons of Eli took the Ark of the Lord into battle as a kind of talisman. But the Israeli army was severely defeated. The two sons of Eli who held the Ark of the Covenant were killed and the Ark was captured by the enemy army.

Eli was sitting in a chair by the wayside with a heavy heart – especially on account of the Ark of the Lord that was in battle. He probably knew that the fact that his wicked children were responsible for the Ark couldn't do any good.

By that time he had already lost his sight. Then a messenger from the tribe of Benjamin came to him and gave him the bad news. The messenger reported that his children were dead and that the Ark had been taken.

Interestingly, what really provoked the reaction that killed Eli was the information of the loss of the Ark, not the death of his sons and the defeat of the Israelite army. The man who had spent part of his life giving more importance to his children than being zealous for the things of the Lord, ironically ended up dying when he showed greater concern for the Ark of God.

The Bible says that when Eli received the news about the loss of the Ark, he fell backwards from his chair and broke his neck. When his pregnant daughter-in-law, the wife of Phinehas, heard the bad news, he went into labor. She gave birth to a boy, and before she died she called him Ichabod, saying, “The glory of Israel is gone” (1 Samuel 4:21). She said this because she knew that her husband and father-in-law were responsible for the calamity in Israel with the loss of the Ark of the Lord. The high priest Eli died at the age of ninety-eight.

Eli's legacy

The Bible says that Eli judged Israel for forty years. It is possible that this period of Eli's leadership coincided, at least in part, with Samson's actions and the activities of other judges from that same period (cf. Judges 12-16). All this time he was in Shiloh.

Certainly Eli was marked in the Bible in a negative way. His conduct teaches us, mainly, about the danger of not watching over the work of the Lord. In other words, his life is a testimony that we must always prioritize the honor of God and not be oblivious to sin.

But one also has to recognize that there was some good in Eli's life. As R. L. Harris notes, Eli rightly exhorted Hannah to holiness and blessed her for her faith. Also, he certainly played a big part in Samuel's growth. In fact, he obviously did better with Samuel than with his own children.

Now the sons of Eli were ungodly men; they did not know the Lord. THOUGH THEY ARE PRIESTS;

For the custom of these priests towards the people was that, when someone offered a sacrifice, and while the meat was being cooked, the priest's servant came, having a three-pronged fork in his hand, and put it into the pot or pan. , or in the cauldron, or in the pot; and whatever the fork took away, the priest took for himself. So they did to all Israel who came to Shiloh;

Also, before they burned the fat, the priest's servant came and said to the man who sacrificed, Give roast meat to the priest; for he will not receive cooked meat from you, but raw. if the man answered him, Without doubt, the fat will soon be burned, and then take as much as your soul desires; then he said to him: Thou shalt not give it now; if not, by force I will take it. So the sin of these young men was very great before the Lord, because men came to despise the offering of the Lord.

Eli scolds his sons

Eli was already very old; and he heard all that his sons did to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who ministered at the door of the tent of meeting. And he said to them, Why do ye such things? for I hear from all this people your evil deeds. No, my children, this is not a good reputation I hear. You make the people of the Lord transgress. If one man sins against another, God will judge him; but if a man sins against the Lord, who will intercede for him? Yet they did not listen to their father's voice, because the Lord wanted to destroy them. And the boy Samuel grew in stature and in favor with the Lord and with men.

Prophecy against the house of Eli

A man of God came to Eli, and said to him, Thus says the LORD: Did I not indeed reveal myself to your father's house, while they were still in Egypt, subject to the house of Pharaoh? And I chose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense, and to bring the ephod before me; and I gave to your father's house all the burnt offerings of the children of Israel. Why do you despise my sacrifice and my offering, which I commanded to be made in my dwelling, and why honor your children more than me, so that you become fat with the chief of all the offerings of my people Israel? Therefore says the Lord God of Israel: Truly I said that your house and your father's house would walk before me forever. But now the Lord says, Far be it from me to do such a thing, for I will honor those who honor me, but those who despise me will be despised. Behold, the days are coming when I will cut off your arm and the arm of your father's house, so that there will be no elder in your house. And you, in trouble, will look with envy on all the prosperity that I will bring on Israel; and there shall be no elder in your house all the days. The man of your lineage whom I do not uproot from my altar will be to consume your eyes and to grieve your soul; and all the descendants of your house will die by the sword of men. And it shall be a sign for you that shall befall your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas; both will die on the same day. And I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who will do according to what is in my heart and in my mind. I will build him a lasting house, and he will always walk before my anointed. And everyone who is left of your house will come and bow down to him for a piece of silver and a piece of bread, and say, I beg you, admit me to some priestly office, that I may eat a morsel of bread. 1 Samuel 2:30

BEWARE OF IMPATIENCE!!! SHE CAN TAKE BLESSINGS FROM US...

Why Didn't Moses Enter the Promised Land?

Moses did not enter the Promised Land because in a moment of impatience he did not take the Word of God properly. Consequently, he failed to recognize the holiness and glory of God before the people.

The biblical text that explains why Moses did not enter the Promised Land is recorded in the Pentateuch, in the Book of Numbers. The Bible says that once, during the wanderings of the people of Israel through the desert, there was no water to drink, and the Israelites were very angry.

Then quickly they began to murmur and to oppose Moses and Aaron. Ungrateful for the deliverance that God had given them by bringing them out of Egypt, and unbelieving even after so many demonstrations of God's power, the Israelites began to speak that Moses and Aaron should not have led them into the wilderness.

According to them, it would have been better to have stayed in Egypt rather than to die in the desert of hunger and thirst (Numbers 20:2-5). The truth is that whenever the Israelites encountered any difficulty, they complained to Moses and Aaron, questioned their leadership, and regretted not having remained in Egypt.

Moses' Sin and the Lord's Discipline

When the people complained, Moses and Aaron fell down at the door of the Tabernacle, and the glory of the Lord appeared to them. Then God commanded Moses to take the rod and, together with Aaron, gather the Israelite community. Before the people, they had to speak to a rock, because water would flow out of it to satisfy all the people and their flocks (Numbers 20:8).

The problem was that Moses and Aaron gathered the people together as the Lord commanded, but they acted recklessly. The biblical text records Moses' statement: "Hear now, you rebels, shall we bring water out of this rock and give it to you?" (Number 20:10). Then the biblical text of the Book of Numbers says that Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his rod, and water gushed out of the rock, quenching the thirst of the people and their flocks (Numbers 20:11).

Soon after Moses' reckless attitude, God's rebuke also followed. The Bible says that the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust me to honor my holiness before the children of Israel, therefore you did not bring this people into the land that I have given them” (Numbers 20:12) .

Moses did not enter the Promised Land

The Lord's disciplining statement helps us understand why Moses did not enter the Promised Land. First, Moses let his impulse take the lead in his faith. When this happens, man is vulnerable to the point of failing at his strongest point. The Bible says that Moses was the meekest man on earth; but at that moment meekness justly lacked (Numbers 12:3).

Second, Moses did not obey the Lord's command. God had told him to speak to the rock, but he did it differently. He acted violently and struck the rock twice. Then, thirdly, by his attitude Moses was not only disobedient and impatient, but also dishonored the holiness of God before the Israelites.

This point is best understood in light of the rock symbolism in connection with the Lord. Earlier God had already symbolically identified himself with a smitten rock to quench the thirst of his people (Exodus 17:6). And the New Testament interprets the rock smitten by Moses at Mass as a figure of Christ who bore the punishment on behalf of God's people (1 Corinthians 10:4).

That is why later the attitude of Moses when he struck the rock with violence when God had told him to only speak to the rock, despised the deep meaning of the manifestation of the Lord and did not honor his holiness.

Consequently, Moses ended up usurping God's place by doing as he pleased. Before the entire congregation of Israel, Moses spoke as if he and Aaron were truly responsible for quenching the people's thirst by bringing water out of that rock. This means that he inevitably glorified himself instead of glorifying the Lord.

So considering all these factors, we can understand why Moses did not enter the Promised Land. Even the fact that God rebuked Aaron on the same occasion indicates that he was also involved in his brother's act.

THE SIN OF ACH: GREED SELFISHNESS, GREED AND DISOBEDIENCE

Joshua 7:1-24

New International Version

Achan's Sin and Its Consequences

1 But the Israelites were unfaithful in regard to consecrated things. Achan the son of Carmi, the son of Zimri[a], the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took possession of some of them. And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel.

2 It came to pass that Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is near Beth-aven, east of Bethel, and commanded them, “Go up and spy out the region.” The men went up and spied on Ai.

3 When they returned to Joshua, they said, “It is not necessary for everyone to advance against Ai. Send two or three thousand men to attack it. Do not weary the whole army, for they are few.” 4 So about three thousand men attacked the city; but the men of Ai put them to flight, 5 killing thirty-six of them. They pursued the Israelites from the city gate to Sebarim[b], and wounded them on the way down. At this the people were completely discouraged.

6 Then Joshua tore his clothes with the elders of Israel, fell on his face before the ark of the LORD, covering his head with earth, and remained there until evening. 7 Then Joshua said, “Ah, Sovereign Lord, why did you bring this people across Jordan? Was it to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites and destroy us? If only we were content to continue on the other side of Jordan! 8 What can I say, Lord, now that Israel has been defeated by their enemies? 9 The Canaanites and the rest of the land will know about this, and they will surround us and eliminate our name from the land. What then will you do for your great name?”

10 The Lord said to Joshua, “Get up! Why are you prostrate there? 11 Israel sinned. You have violated the covenant I commanded you. He took possession of consecrated things, stole them, hid them, and placed them with his possessions. 12 That is why the Israelites cannot resist their enemies; flee from them because they have become worthy of their destruction. I will no longer be with you, unless you destroy from among you that which was consecrated to destruction.

13 “Go, sanctify the people! Say to them: Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, for thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: There are things devoted to destruction among you, O Israel. You will not be able to resist your enemies until you withdraw them.

14 “Report in the morning, one tribe at a time. The tribe the Lord chooses will come forward, one clan at a time; the clan the Lord chooses will come forward, one family at a time; and the family the Lord chooses will come forward, one man at a time. 15 Whoever is caught with the consecrated things will be burned in the fire with everything that belongs to him. He has violated the covenant of the Lord and committed madness in Israel!”

16 The next morning Joshua commanded the Israelites to come forward according to his tribes, and Judah was chosen. 17 The clans of Judah came forward, and he chose the Zerahites. He made the clan of the Zerahites come forward, family by family, and the chosen one was Zimri. 18 Joshua brought the family of Zimri forward, man by man, and Achan the son of Carmi, the son of Zimri, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was chosen.

19 Then Joshua said to Achan, “My son, to the glory of the Lord, the God of Israel, tell the truth. Tell me what you did; don't hide anything from me."

20 Achan replied, “It is true that I have sinned against the Lord, the God of Israel. This is what I did: 21 When I saw among the spoils a beautiful cloak made in Babylon[c], four pounds of silver, and a six-hundred-gram bar of gold[d], I lusted after them and took possession of them. They are hidden on the floor of my tent, with the silver underneath.”

22 Joshua sent men who ran to Achan's tent; there were things hidden, with the silver underneath. 23 They took them out of the tent and brought them to Joshua and to all the Israelites, and they laid them before the LORD.

24 Then Joshua and all Israel took Achan, the great-grandson of Zerah, and his silver, his cloak, his bar of gold, his sons and daughters, his oxen, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and all that he had. belonged to the valley of Achor. 25 Joshua said, “Why have you brought this disaster on us? Today the Lord will bring you disgrace[e].” And all Israel stoned him, and afterward they stoned his also, and burned all and all of them with fire. 26 Over Achan they built a great heap of stones, which exists to this day. Then the Lord turned away from the fire of his wrath. That's why the name of the valley of Achor was given to that place, a name that remains to this day.

The “Achan Syndrome”

And he said to them, Beware and beware of covetousness; because the life of any man does not consist in the abundance of what he has (Luke 12:15 — Almeida Corrigida, Faithful to the Original Text, 2007).

Increasing wealth becomes a craze[1] for some. —Testimonies for the Church, vol. 4, p. 490.

Biblical Year: Leviticus 8-10

1. THE CAUSE OF THE CURSE

A • Once Achan finally confessed his crime, after being identified by God as the culprit in Israel, how did Joshua act? Joshua 7:22 and 23.

Josh 7:22, 23 — Then Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent; and everything was hidden in his tent, and the silver was under the cloak. 23 They took those things from the middle of the tent and brought them to Joshua and to all the Israelites, and they laid them before the Lord.

B • Why was it so important that such sins be revealed? Proverbs 26:2.

Prov 26:2 — As a bird wanders, as a swallow flies, so the curse without cause will not come.

Achan well understood the meaning of what he had withheld, and that the gold and silver treasures he coveted belonged to the Lord. —Testimonies for the Church, vol. 3, p. 269.

Achan's sin brought disaster to the entire nation. For one man's sin, God's displeasure will rest upon his church until the transgression is discovered and removed. The influence to be most feared by the church is not that of open opponents, infidels, and blasphemers, but that of those who incoherently profess Christ. These are the ones who hinder the blessing of the God of Israel and bring weakness to his people.

When the church is in trouble, when there is coldness and spiritual decline, giving way to the victory of the enemies of God, then, instead of folding their arms and lamenting their sad state, investigate the members if there is not an Achan in the camp. With humility and searching of heart, each one seeks to discover the hidden sins that exclude the presence of God. —Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 497.

2. ACAN IS RESPONSIBLE

A • What did God direct the people to do with Achan? Joshua 7:24, 25. Why is his end a warning to us who live so close to the end of probation?

Joshua 7:24, 25 - Then Joshua and all Israel with him took Achan the descendant of Zerah, and the silver, the cloak, and the bar of gold, and his sons and daughters, and his oxen, asses, and sheep. , and his tent, and all that he had, and they brought them into the valley of Achor. 25 And Joshua asked him, Why have you brought us disgrace? Today the Lord will bring disaster on you. And all Israel stoned him; they burned them in the fire and stoned them.

When a crisis finally comes, [...] and God speaks on behalf of His people, those who have sinned, who have been a cloud of darkness and an obstacle to God's work on behalf of His people, may even be alarmed that they have gone so far in grievances, and to have brought dismay to the cause. Like Achan, they may even recognize that they have sinned because of the terror they feel. But their confessions come too late, and are not of the kind that benefit them, even as they lighten the cause of God. These people do not confess because of a conviction of their true state and a sense of how offensive their conduct has been to God. —Testimonies for the Church, vol. 3, p. 271.

There are many at present who would regard Achan's sin as of little account, and would excuse his crime; but it is because they do not have an understanding of the character of sin and its consequences, of the holiness of God and His requirements. It is often said that God is not exacting as to whether or not we pay heed to his word, or whether or not we obey all the commandments of his holy Law; but the record of his dealings with Achan should be a warning to us. In no way will God exonerate the guilty. —The Review and Herald, March 20, 1888.

B • How and why was Achan's end to be kept in memory? Joshua 7:26. What should this mean for us?

Josh 7:26 - And they raised a great heap of stones over it, which remains to this day. And the Lord turned away from the fierceness of his wrath. That's why to this day that place is called the valley of Achor.

Have you ever considered why all who were connected with Achan also received divine punishment? It is because they had not been trained and educated according to the instructions given in the great standard of the Law of God. Achan's parents had educated their son in such a way as to make him feel free to disobey the Word of the Lord. The principles imprinted in his life led him to deal with his own children in such a way that it also corrupted them. Minds act and react with each other, and the punishment that included Achan's family reveals the fact that everyone around him was involved in the transgression. —The SDA Bible Commentary [E. G. White Comments], vol. 2, p. 998.

Biblical Year: Leviticus 13 and 14

3. THE SLUDGE OF GREED

A • What had drawn Achan to sin? James 1:13-15.

Jas 1:13-15 — When tempted, no one should say: I am tempted by God, for God cannot be tempted with evil, and no one tempts. 14 But each one is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then desire, having conceived, gives birth to sin; and sin, after being consummated, generates death.

Achan's covetousness was aroused by the sight of that costly Babylonian cloak; even when, for her sake, he was brought face to face with death, he called it “a good cloak” (Joshua 7:21). One sin had led to another, and he appropriated the silver and gold dedicated to the Lord's treasury—robbing God of the firstfruits of the land of Canaan.

The mortal sin which led to Achan's ruin had its root in covetousness, one of the most common of all sins, and the most lightly regarded. While other offenses face investigation and punishment, breaking the tenth commandment is seldom censured. The lesson of Achan's story represents the enormity of this sin and its dire consequences. —Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 496.

B • Explain how the sin of covetousness is a denial of faith. Hebrews 13:5.

Heb 13:5 — Let your life be free from greed, and be content with what you have; for he himself said: I will never leave you, I will never forsake you.

Greed is an evil of gradual development. Achan fed his greed for profit until it became a habit, binding him in chains that were nearly impossible to break. While harboring this evil, Achan would have been filled with horror at the thought that his actions would bring disgrace on Israel; but his perceptions were lessened by sin, and when temptation came, he fell an easy prey.

Are not similar sins still committed, notwithstanding such clear and solemn warnings? We are given as direct a prohibition on feeding covetousness as Achan was on misappropriating the spoils of Jericho. [...]

Everywhere the slimy trail of greed is seen. It creates discontent and disagreement in families; it stirs up the envy and hatred of the poor against the rich; encourages the tyrannical oppression of the rich against the poor. And this evil does not exist only in the world, but in the church. As is common to find in the community selfishness, avarice, excesses, neglect of the work of charity and theft from God in “tithes and offerings”. Among the church members “in good and regular standing” there are, unfortunately, many Achans. — Ibid., p. 496 and 497.

Biblical Year: Leviticus 15 and 16

4. ESCAPE FROM THE TRAP

A • What warnings are repeated to us against coveting anything that does not belong to us? Luke 12:15; 1 John 2:15-17. How does this sin hinder God's work?

Lk 12:15 — And he said to the people, Beware! Avoid all kinds of covetousness; for the life of man does not consist in the multitude of things he possesses.

1Jo 2:15-17 — Do not love the world or anything in it. If anyone loves the world, the Father's love is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride in goods, is not from the Father, but from the world. 17 Now the world is passing away, and so are its desires; but he that does the will of God abideth forever.

It is this growing devotion to earning money—the selfishness that the desire for profit breeds—that removes God's favor from the church and weakens its spirituality. When head and hands are constantly occupied in planning and working for the accumulation of wealth, the claims of God and humanity are forgotten. —Testimonies for the Church, vol. 4, p. 82.

Instead of giving our all to Christ, many of us have taken a part of the gold and a good Babylonian cloak, hiding these things in the camp. If the presence of one Achan was enough to weaken the entire camp of Israel, are we surprised at how little success our efforts achieve when every church and nearly every family has its Achan? — Ibid., vol. 5, p. 157.

B • What other sins related to covetousness does God especially hate? Proverbs 6:16-19. How does God see us when we feed these sins?

Prov 6:16-19 — Six things the Lord hates, even seven He abhors: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood; 18 a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are quick to do evil; 19 a false witness who speaks lies and who sows enmity among brothers.

Various sins which are cherished and practiced by professing Christians bring the displeasure of God upon the church. In the day when the record book of Heaven is opened, the Judge will not express man's guilt in words, but will cast a penetrating and convincing look, and every act and transgression of life will be vividly recorded in the memory of the wrongdoer. A person will not need to be sought from tribe to family as in Joshua's day, but his own lips will confess his shame, selfishness, covetousness, dishonesty, dissimulation, and fraud. His sins, hidden from the knowledge of man, will be proclaimed, as it were, from the housetops.

The influence most to be feared by the church is not that of open opposers, of infidels and blasphemers, but of the inconsistent followers of Christ. These are the ones who take away the divine blessings from Israel and bring weakness to the church; a shame that is not easily eliminated. — Ibid., vol. 4, p. 493.

The Spirit [of God] is offended by the pride, extravagance, dishonesty, and fraud to which some who claim to be godly indulge. All these things bring God's displeasure upon his people. — Ibid., p. 491.

5. TRADE TRANSPARENCY

A • What understanding can help us put God and our neighbors ahead of our natural desire for secular gain? Proverbs 15:3; Colossians 3:1-3.

Prov 15:3 - The eyes of the Lord are in every place, watching the evil and the good.

Col 3:1-3 - Since you have been raised with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things; 3 for you are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

The worldly custom of cheating in business is no example for Christians. They must not deviate from perfect integrity, even in the smallest things. Selling an item for a price greater than its real value, taking advantage of the buyers' ignorance, is fraud. Illegal gain, little business tricks, exaggeration, competition, offering a lesser amount to a brother who is trying to do an honest business—these things are corrupting the purity of the church and ruining its spirituality.

The business world is not outside the bounds of God's government. Christianity is not merely to be shown on the Sabbath and displayed in the sanctuary; it's for every day of the week and everywhere. Its demands must be recognized and obeyed in the workplace, in the home, and in business dealings with the brethren and with the world. —Testimonies for the Church, vol. 4, p. 494.

The first Christian church did not have the privileges and opportunities that we have. They were poor people who felt the power of truth. The goal before them was enough to encourage them to invest everything. They felt that the salvation or damnation of the world depended on their doing their part. That's why they donated everything and were willing to come or go according to the will of the Lord.

We always say that we are governed by these same principles, that we have the same spirit. Let us individually set out to the work of encouraging others by our example of disinterested benevolence. — Ibid., vol. 5, pp. 156 and 157.

FOR YOU TO REFLECT

1. What else hinders God's blessing and weakens his people?

2. How can I influence youth the way Achan influenced his children?

3. How can I avoid giving in to the initial roots of greed?

4. What danger surrounds us, especially when we buy or sell something used?

5. How can I escape the common trap of lusting after secular gains?
