 The Danger of lying and trying to deceive the Eternal, living according to your passions...

Sin and think you will never be punished...

The sins of Eli's sons

Now the sons of Eli were ungodly men; they did not know the Lord. THOUGH THEY ARE PRIESTS;

For the custom of these priests towards the people was that, when someone offered a sacrifice, and while the meat was being cooked, the priest's servant came, having a three-pronged fork in his hand, and put it into the pot or pan. , or in the cauldron, or in the pot; and whatever the fork took away, the priest took for himself. So they did to all Israel who came to Shiloh;

Also, before they burned the fat, the priest's servant came and said to the man who sacrificed, Give roast meat to the priest; for he will not receive cooked meat from you, but raw. if the man answered him, Without doubt, the fat will soon be burned, and then take as much as your soul desires; then he said to him: Thou shalt not give it now; if not, by force I will take it. So the sin of these young men was very great before the Lord, because men came to despise the offering of the Lord.

Eli scolds his sons

Eli was already very old; and he heard all that his sons did to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who ministered at the door of the tent of meeting. And he said to them, Why do ye such things? for I hear from all this people your evil deeds. No, my children, this is not a good reputation I hear. You make the people of the Lord transgress. If one man sins against another, God will judge him; but if a man sins against the Lord, who will intercede for him? Yet they did not listen to their father's voice, because the Lord wanted to destroy them. And the boy Samuel grew in stature and in favor with the Lord and with men.

Prophecy against the house of Eli

A man of God came to Eli, and said to him, Thus says the LORD: Did I not indeed reveal myself to your father's house, while they were still in Egypt, subject to the house of Pharaoh? And I chose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense, and to bring the ephod before me; and I gave to your father's house all the burnt offerings of the children of Israel. Why do you despise my sacrifice and my offering, which I commanded to be made in my dwelling, and why honor your children more than me, so that you become fat with the chief of all the offerings of my people Israel? Therefore says the Lord God of Israel: Truly I said that your house and your father's house would walk before me forever. But now the Lord says, Far be it from me to do such a thing, for I will honor those who honor me, but those who despise me will be despised. Behold, the days are coming when I will cut off your arm and the arm of your father's house, so that there will be no elder in your house. And you, in trouble, will look with envy on all the prosperity that I will bring on Israel; and there shall be no elder in your house all the days. The man of your lineage whom I do not uproot from my altar will be to consume your eyes and to grieve your soul; and all the descendants of your house will die by the sword of men. And it shall be a sign for you that shall befall your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas; both will die on the same day. And I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who will do according to what is in my heart and in my mind. I will build him a lasting house, and he will always walk before my anointed. And everyone who is left of your house will come and bow down to him for a piece of silver and a piece of bread, and say, I beg you, admit me to some priestly office, that I may eat a morsel of bread. 1 Samuel 2:30
