Image Idolatry Verses

Images are things created by men, without any power. An image does not gain the power of a deity nor can it do anything for the person who worships it. Putting your trust in an image is a big mistake.

There is only one God. He does not live within images nor does he accept that we worship things other than gods. Only God has the power to help and deliver us in our time of need. Worshiping an image is an insult against the true God.

Little children, keep yourselves from idols. 1 John 5:21

"You shall have no other gods besides me. "You shall not make for yourself any idol, any image of anything in heaven, on earth, or in the waters under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing children for the sins of their fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who despise me, but I deal kindly to a thousand generations to those who love me and obey my commandments. Exodus 20:3-6

"Do not turn to idols or make metal gods for yourselves. I am the LORD, your God. Leviticus 19:4

Their idols of silver and gold,

are made by human hands. They have a mouth, but they cannot speak;

eyes, but cannot see; they have ears but cannot hear;

nose, but cannot smell; they have hands, but they can feel nothing;

feet, but cannot walk;

and they do not make any sound with their throat. Become like them those who make them

and all who trust in them. Psalms 115:4-8

Claiming to be wise, they became mad and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made in the likeness of mortal man, as well as birds, four-legged animals and reptiles. Romans 1:22-23

"'Cursed is anyone who carves an image or makes a cast idol, the work of artisans, detestable to the Lord, and sets it up secretly.'

All the people will say, 'Amen!' Deuteronomy 27:15

Who will you compare God to?

How can they represent you? With an image that the craftsman fuses,

and that the goldsmith covers with gold

and for which do you fashion silver chains? Or with the poor man's idol,

that he can just choose

a good piece of wood

and look for a carpenter

to make an image that doesn't fall over? Isaiah 40:18-20

Half of the wood

he burns in fire;

upon it he prepares his meal,

he roasts the meat and eats his portion.

He also warms up and says:

"Ah! I am warm;

I see the fire." Of the rest he makes a god, his idol;

bow down before him and worship him.

Pray to him and say, “Save me;

you are my god." They know nothing, they understand nothing;

your eyes are covered,

can't see,

and their minds are closed,

they can't understand. To think no one stops,

no one has the knowledge

or the understanding to say:

“Half of it I used as fuel;

I even baked bread on its coals,

I roasted meat and ate it.

I would do something disgusting

with what's left?

Would I kneel before

from a piece of wood?" He feeds on ashes,

a deluded heart leads you astray;

he is unable to save himself

or to say:

"This thing in my right hand

is it not a lie?" Isaiah 44:16-20

"Do not make idols or images or sacred pillars for yourselves, and do not place any carved stone in your land to bow down to it. I am the Lord, your God. Leviticus 26:1

The religious customs of nations are useless:

a forest tree is cut down,

a craftsman shapes it with his chisel; they adorn it with silver and gold,

holding everything together with hammer and nails

so that it doesn't wobble. Like a scarecrow

in a cucumber field,

idols are unable to speak

and have to be transported

because they can't walk.

Don't be afraid of them,

because they can't do it

neither evil nor good." Jeremiah 10:3-5

All these men

they are stupid and ignorant;

every goldsmith is ashamed

for the image he carved.

Your carved images

are a fraud,

they have no breath of life. They are useless,

They are objects of mockery.

When their judgment comes,

they will perish. Jeremiah 10:14-15

"What is the value of an image made

by a sculptor?

Or a metal idol

who teaches lies?

For he who does it

trust in your own creation,

making idols unable to speak. Woe to him who says to the wood:

'Awaken!'

Or to the lifeless stone: 'Wake up!'

Can the idol give guidance?

It is covered in gold and silver,

but not breathing. The Lord, however,

is in his holy temple;

before him be silent

all the earth." Habakkuk 2:18-20

I will destroy your graven images

and its sacred columns;

you will no longer bow

before the work of his hands. Micah 5:13

So what am I trying to say? Is the sacrifice offered to an idol anything? Or is the idol something? No! I mean that what the pagans sacrifice is offered to the devils and not to God, and I do not want you to have communion with the devils. 1 Corinthians 10:19-20

"Thus, since we are the offspring of God, we should not think that the Godhead is similar to a sculpture of gold, silver or stone, made by the art and imagination of man. In the past God did not take this ignorance into account, but now he commands that everyone everywhere repent. Acts of the Apostles 17:29-30
