12 And the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates; and its water was dried up, to prepare the way of the kings of the east.
13 And the mouth of the dragon, and the mouth of the beast, and the mouth of the false prophet I saw three unclean spirits like frogs.
14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
16 And together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.
17 And the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and there came a great voice from the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.
18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings, and a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth; such was this great earthquake.

Bahr al Milh (also called Lake Razazah) is a "sea" of salt in Iraq, fed by the Euphrates via channel. The water levels of the shallow lake vary according to the seasons, but over the past decade the levels have been dramatically low in all the years.

The exact location of the "Garden of Eden", where occur some of the events described in the book of Genesis, is uncertain, but both accepted theories indicate to a flooded area in the Middle East, between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. This summer, the water levels in the region are the lowest since the 1990s, when the then Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein diverted the rivers of courses to quell rebel groups.
According to experts, the current situation would be caused by the drought in the river Euphrates, which was reduced to a stream. And the drop in water levels in the region is generating a crisis.
- It is tragic - said Hassan Janabi, responsible for water supply in Iraq, told the magazine "New Scientist". - It happened unexpectedly, and as our focus was on the fight against terrorism, no one noticed.
Last week, the water levels in the city of Al Chabaish were only half that expected for this time of the year, Jassim al-Asadi, the NGO Nature Iraq, despite normal levels of rainfall.
- The amount of water coming from the Euphrates is less than one tenth of the need - said al-Asadi.
And the drought is already affecting the local fauna. Suzanne Alwash, a researcher at Mt. San Antonio College in California, says that salinity doubled and therefore animals like buffalo no longer drink from this source.
- The death of fish is common - Suzanne said.

In June, the committee for water and agriculture in the Iraqi parliament blamed Turkey for the crisis. They claim that hydroelectric dams are blocking the water in the north of the river and accuse the Turks of breaking an agreement providing for the release of at least 500 cubic meters per second of water to the south of the Euphrates. The Turkish government did not comment.

Iraqi lawmakers also blame the Islamic State in May, captured the dam of Ramadi and since then, has diverted the Euphrates waters to its normal course, which would supply regions to the south of the country controlled by the government, including the flooded areas to lake Habbaniyah. The fear is that the group reach the control of the Haditha Dam, which would put the total control of the Euphrates in Iraq in the hands of terrorists.
However, Azzam Alwash, director of the NGO Nature Iraq, says the country's government also has its share of guilt. Three quarters of the Euphrates volume arriving in the city of Najaf, the edges of the flooded area, are being diverted to irrigate rice fields of farmers who support the government in an attempt to contain the advance of the Islamic State.
The flooded areas in southern Iraq have arrived to cover an area of 20 square kilometers. The drying process started in the 1950s, for agriculture and the oil industry, but the situation was dramatic during the 1990s, when Saddam Hussein built canals and dams to prevent the waters of the Tigris and Euphrates came to the region, which was inhabited by Shiite groups. By 2003, the waters were drained to 10% of its original size, but since then, environmentalists as Azzam Alwash managed to recover part of the ecosystem.
