ARE YOU AWARE?

In the past God did not take into account such ignorance, but now commands all people everywhere to repent. For it has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead. "

Acts 3:19

JONAH 1: 1-16

Jonah's vocation. His escape and his punishment
1 AND CAME the word of the Lord Jonah the son of Amittai, saying:
2 Arise, go to Nineveh, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.
3 But Jonah rose up to flee the presence of the LORD to Tarshish. And down to Joppa, he found a ship going to Tarshish; paid, for their passage, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the Lord.
4 But the Lord sent a great wind into the sea, and there was at sea a strong storm and the ship was about to break.
5 Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and threw overboard the charges, which were on the ship, to lighten its weight; Jonas, however, went down to the hold of the ship, and he lay, and was fast asleep.
6 And the shipmaster came up to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, sleeper? Arise, call upon thy God; perhaps so he remember us that we perish not.
7 And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know why because in this evil. And they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah.
8 Then said they unto him thou with us now, because of who in this evil. What is your occupation? Where have you come? What is your country? And what people are you?
9 And he said to them: I am a Hebrew, and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land.
10 Then the men were exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of Yahweh, because he had told them.
11 And they said unto him, What shall we thee, that the sea may be calm? Because the sea was becoming increasingly stormy.
12 And he said to them: Pick me up and throw me into the sea, and the sea be calm unto you: because I know that for my sake this great tempest has come upon you.
13 However, the men rowed, to return the ship to land, but they could not, for the sea would embravecendo increasingly against them.
14 Then they cried to the LORD, and said, Oh, Lord! We pray you, that not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood; for thou, LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.
15 And they took up Jonah, and cast into the sea, and the sea ceased from its raging.
16 feared because these men the LORD with great fear; and offered sacrifice unto the LORD, and made vows.
17 prepared as the Lord prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah; And Jonah was three days and three nights in the fish's belly.

JONAS 2: 1-10

Jonah preached in Nineveh: repentance of the Ninevites
1 AND CAME the word of the Lord Jonah the second time, saying:
2 Arise, and go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it the message that I tell you.
3 And Jonas arose, and went to Nineveh according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was a very great city of three days' journey.
4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
5 And the men of Nineveh believed God; and they proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least.
6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh; and he rose from his throne, and took his garments, and covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
7 He made a proclamation and published through Nineveh by the king and his nobles decree, saying, Let neither man nor beast, neither cattle nor sheep, taste any thing, nor let them not feed, nor drink water;
8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily to God, and let them turn every one from his evil way and from the violence that is in their hands.
9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and make the turn from his fierce anger, so that we perish not?
10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil which he announced would do to them, and did not.
